How can you recover chats from Google Drive?
- The user must first ensure that the messaging app is backing up the chat history to the Google Drive account before starting this procedure.
- If you’re switching devices, sign in to your Google account first.
- Users can choose to restart conversation once a day, once a week, or once a month.
- To restore your chat history, download WhatsApp and confirm your phone number. After signing in and verifying your account, the app will prompt you to retrieve your conversation history from Google Drive.
- Select ‘Restore’ from the drop-down menu.
- To discover the old chats, tap ‘Next.’
- If the chat is not saved on the Google Drive account, WhatsApp will retrieve it from the device’s local storage. This, however, will not function with the new device.

How to recover chats from local backup?
- Make your way to the file management. Look for the WhatsApp folder, which is normally on the device’s internal storage.
- Choose ‘Databases’ from the drop-down menu. Backups of conversation history may be found there, organised by date. Check to see if the date’s conversation history is stored there.
- Copy the most recent item in the Databases folder and paste it into the same-named folder in your internal storage if your WhatsApp data is kept on an SD card.
- Uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp, then sign in using your phone number.
- By pressing the ‘Recover’ option, you can allow the programme to recover your conversation history.
- To restore chat backups from a later date, choose the desired one from the Databases folder and rename it from msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12 to msgstore.db.crypt12.
- Make sure that just the date is removed and that the remainder is left alone. It is not recommended that the crypt extension be modified.
